If all the reviews you find on a book are bad and it has a 37% approval rating on Visual Bookshelf on Facebook, chances are it's not going to be book. You might as well not waste your time.
It's not going to be book? Did you mean "good"? In any case, I know what you mean, as I've had books on my TBR pile, started into them and become disgruntled, then see the online reaction to the book is unflattering. Now I know better. :)
I don't give books star ratings; I give them bite ratings. This is a bite. A book can get up to five of these evil-looking chompers, including half bites.
You can attribute your own wording to the ratings. Five's the best, three's decent, one and under isn't worth the gas to go to the library. I'll leave it to you to fill in the blanks.

So is visual bookshelf the YA book equivalent of Rotten Tomatoes?
It's like any other book website out there. Shelfari, Goodreads, LibraryThing.
