No ARCs for Mockingjay!
To those of you looking forward to a potential ARC of the final book in the Hunger Games series at BEA, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you won't find them. Scholastic will not be releasing ARCs for Mockingjay.
There was some buzz about this at last year's BEA. I guess it happened with Twilight. I know Breaking Dawn didn't get an ARC but I can't remember if the third one did (what's it's name? Eclipse?) The more popular a series gets, the less inclined the publishers are to release ARCs in order to prevent leaks of what actually happens. Book stores won't even be getting copies early (or at least as early as they normally get them) in order to keep the plot as silent as possible.
While I'm, like, twitching to find out what happens, I kind of like that everyone's starting on the same plane for this one. It's not like it needs advanced reviews or anything. Enough people are foaming at the mouth to get their hands on it so making them suffer is a win-win for for the publishers!
So get your advanced orders in and bug the hell out of your local book store to get them to have a midnight release party because no one's getting these babies before midnight on August 24th! And that's a worldwide release date, by the way! Single drop!

I figured that they wouldn't do ARC but I do have my order already in for this book too.
I still haven't read this series yet - I know! I had heard they weren't releasing any ARCs but wasn't for sure why. Thanks for the info!
Thanks for the heads up. While I would have loved to have seen ARCs of this, the news does not surprise me at all. Guess I will just have to wait till August to figure out how everything ends.
I was crossing my fingers for this one but... urgh... I guess I'll be comforted by the fact that we'll all have to wait for this one book :)
At least we won't have to be envious of anyone getting it early!
I think with books like Mockingjay which already have huge buzz, there's no real need for ARCs, just as there wasn't with Harry Potter, and this is so dorky but when I read my Harry Potter books, I felt like I was part of a huge community because everyone was reading them at the same time. I hope I feel that way with Mockingjay.
I think this is a pattern that will continue.
An earlier post made comment about the lack of ARC's reducing publicity buzz, but if the series is already established then the buzz is provided by the earlier books.
I believe ARC's for series books are coming to an end.
My friend told me this and I was so upset, her and I were planning on going to BEA just for this! Oh well, Amazon's got overnight shipping, hoping I'll get it that day :)
I think this is a good way for the publisher to save money. The further along a series gets, why keep releasing ARCs? If the series is still going then it has its popularity and ARCs are promotional material. If the series is promoting itself, it would be rather redundant to keep ARCs, not to mention costly although those costs could rightly be recouped in sales.
Too bad as I was going to go get a bunch of ARCs and then sell them because this series blows!
Good for you.
