Book Wars (5) + Other Stuff

I forgot about my own contest yesterday! My contest for Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist is now closed! Oops. The first time I forgot to post a reminder for it. Oh well! First time for everything!

And I never heard from Karly for my Vampire Taxonomy contest so I had to choose another winner. And that is MommyGirl!!! Congrats! I'll email you shortly.

Now onto the wars. In a landslide vote, The Hunger Games series won last week's battle. This week, these two series couldn't be more different but since SOOOOOOOOOO many people are SOOOOOOOOOOO determined to compare the two for god knows what reason, I'm pitting them against each other. FIGHT!

Twilight series

vs.

Harry Potter series

I think one is mostly romantic and the other it's all about adventure. I prefer Twilight

Please, no contest. Harry hounds down! No bishonen sparkles for him and no girlfriend that can't stand on her own two feet without him either.

I think the Harry Potter series is a bit too long, dragged out, and not as interesting. Twilight all the way. :)

hmmm.... a weak heroine who constantly needs a man by her side or a wand-wielding hero who defeats the most evil wizard of all time...

should there even be a choice? Harry Potter of course!!

Harry Potter! No contest. After my sister finished the Twilight saga I convinced her to start Harry Potter, and she's reading them faster then that Twilight books

OMG! Harry Potter all the way!
While thinking of these two series I remembered something Stephen King said on the subject in early 2009 - I found the quote:

"Both Rowling and Meyer, they’re speaking directly to young people… The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good."

ouch!

Harry Potter even though I didn't read the last 3 books... Twilight is way too overrated.

I did love Twilight (ducking to avoid being smacked)
BUT
I would choose Harry Potter.

I liked twilight, but i'm from the generation that grew up with Harry Potter over the years. I'm in college, yet me and most my friends still keep up with the HP movies because we've all read it at some point.

HARRY POTTER!

RPatz is Cedric, not Edward.

I'd have to say Twilight. I love the sappy romance stuff.

So tough! This has been going on for ages....but I'd say...
Twilight.
Just because I haven't read all the HP books. Lol.

Harry Potter. I grew up with it. There's no contest between the two for me.

Twilight. I've never been able to get into the Harry Potter books.

Harry Potter. Is this really a question? I think not.
Harry, Harry, Harry.

Yeah, I don't think that this is any contest for me.Harry Potter saved the wizarding world from evil Lord Voldemort, and Bella just fell in love with a sparkly vampire.

Not to mention that I've grown up with Harry, and I still feel like the books were a large part of my childhood.

Harry Potter all the way!

I think each series aims for something totally different, and the only elements in common are really the genre (YA fantasy) and the popularity/fandom. I don't think it's fair to compare the two.

That being said, Harry Potter series gets my vote. While I own and love both series, I feel HP is the stronger story overall.

WHAT?!? How are we supposed to choose?!?
I see other people are having no trouble just choosing Harry Potter, but it is SO hard for me to do.
Still, nonetheless, I have to go with Harry Potter!

Although are they really even comparable? Seriously?

HARRY POTTER!!!!!!!!!!!!Tho it wont, if Twilight were to win I would scream! There is no other answer than Harry Potter,.

I vote Twilight Saga.

HP was too Middle School written for me. I couldn't get past the first page. :(

The movies are awesome though. :)

I would have to go with Harry Potter. The imagination of J.K. Rowling is just completely amazing. She created it all and to me an author who can do that truly deserves the recognition. So yeah, Harry Potter!

FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

GAH! Tears out hair! Since I'm watching A Very Potter Musical on youtube, I'm going to have to go with Harry Potter. Though I like Twilight, it got way insane when the movies started coming out and now it's getting annoying.

Harry Potter could kick Edward Cullen's ass without even drawing his wand.

Stephanie Meyer does not have Rowling's world building or character development skills. While Twilight may be a good story. There is NO CONTEST that Harry Potter is EPIC and much more well written.

HARRY POTTER!

I only see one book here, and that is Harry Potter.

Wow... that's a really tough choice... I can't choose!

Harry Potter. Nothing more to say...! :)

I think they're both very good for different reasons. the reasons we read these stories are the same; we all like an escape from the 'real world'. In both you tend to get 'lost' and become 'part' of the story. sure, we may prefer to read one or the other, but its just like someone who prefers ice cream over cake; too much of either and you need a break for awhile.
i've been obsessed with both these series at some point, but its only a phase. its less of an obsession for me now, which i think is healthier anyway. ill still pick up twilight or one of the harrys every now and then, but i realize now that theres too much out there to be read to be reading books 10 or 20 times over lol.
