I have to say that I only support contests for books that I totally support. And I totally support anything that involves Cirque du Freak. And I'm really excited for the movie to come out!

80s Awesomeness! ~ 29

Probably one of the awesomest 80s movies, and vampire movies, ever, Near Dark. The thing is, the word vampire is never mentioned in the film. It's insinuated, sure, but you won't hear the word. And these guys don't have fangs. Quite possibly the ONLY vampires that can pass as vampires and not have fangs. Why? Because they don't need them. They will tear you to shit perfectly fine without them. Thanks.

It's a family of roving vampires that are constantly dirty and travel around in a beat up camper. The dainty chick falls for our dear Adrian Pasdar and before he knows it, he's starting to smoke in the sun. Literally. Sucks for him! The ending always has me laugh because in reality, it would kill anyone but it saves a couple of the characters and poof! Daywalkers again!

What pisses me off though, thanks to all of this Twishite, they've repackaged the DVD and Adrian bears a striking resemblance to sickly gray-looking Edward on the cover. I refuse to post it. Google it if you want to see it. Yeah, I get you're trying to cash in on the whole Twinut thing, guys, but Near Dark being anything like those glitterpires? Uh . . . if the Twiwards don't yak on their couches, they'll have nightmares for weeks. Bar scene, anyone? These are not "vegetarians" and they will gladly, and with much enthusiasm, kill you dead. You know, like vampires should.

Miley Cyrus to Star in Wings

So Aprilynne Pike's novel Wings is getting made into a movie. The star? Miley Cyrus, Miss Hannah Montana herself.

I haven't read the book yet and while I think Cyrus's music can be pretty damn catchy, I think anything she touches just might be bordering on fail. For those of you that read it and know the main character, what do you think? Is this a good fit? Do you think Cyrus can do the MC justice?

Now I want to read the book just to see if Cyrus is going to FUBAR the role or not.

Half-Blood Prince a Near-Epic Fail

Apparently David Yates has gone off the deep end with deviating from the book on this one. All romance, removing pivotal memory scenes and Dumbledore survives? WTF? They're splitting the last movie in two because they don't want to compromise the story and they're ass-raping HBP? Why? There's so much important information in HBP that needs to be said in order to get to Deathly Hallows that it's just downright sacrilege to cut it out. And all of the romance was either comedic relief (Ron and Lavender) or underlying (Harry and Ginny). Why are those aspects being amped up? Why are they screwing with Harry Potter? Go mutilate Twilight. It's not like it's too far off. Preserve Harry Potter for the awesomeness that it is instead of cranking it out to please a particular target audience, or so they think.

Shouldn't they know by now that said target audience wants what's in the books and not what the studios think they want? Why haven't they gotten that yet? We're on the sixth damn movie already!

Hunger Games, The Movie

Publisher's Weekly is stating that Lionsgate has obtained the rights to the film version of Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games. The best part? Collins will adapt the screenplay so you know it's going to be a good book-to-film creation. It makes me wonder if Lionsgate wanted her to adapt the book or if that was part of the deal on Collins's part? Yeah, I think about those kinds of things.

Nina Jacobson, who's also producing the film version of Diary of a Whimpy Kid, will produce The Hunger Games through her newly created company Color Force. Jacobson was formerly a chief at Disney studios and former president of Buena Vista Motion Pictures and is currently working on a film through DreamWorks.

80s Awesomeness! ~ 1

Is it really a surprise that my first post for 80s Awesomeness! is about--

Ask any fan of this movie (hi!) and they'll say this movie is the epitome of the 80s. And it is. The clothes, the style, the music, the mood, it's the 80s forever immortalized in 97 minutes of celluloid. Released in 1987, this teen vampire flick was Joel Schumacher's pride and joy (or so we like to think), starring Kiefer Sutherland, Billy Wirth, Alex Winter, Brooke McCarter, Edward Herrmann, Diane Weist, Corey Haim, Jason Patric, Barnard Hughes, Corey Feldman, Jamison Newlander, Jami Gertz and Chance Michael Corbitt.

Summary:

Sam, Michael and Lucy Emerson decide to start a new life in in the sunny coastal town of Santa Carla, California by moving in with Lucy's eccentric, taxidermist dad, Grandpa. Lucy just wants the best for her boys but Sam can't get his Brat Pack fix without MTV and Michael just wants to drop out of school and get a job to help out.

But that first night on the Boardwalk changes everything.

Sam, with his comic book obsession, homes in on the only comic shop in town, owned by the Frogs and run by two teenage Rambo wannabes that are keen to keeping Sam in the loop about vampires in the area. Why, he has no idea. Those kids are crazy. If he can't have his TV, he just wants his comics.

Michael gets his first look a beautiful gypsy girl that he can't help but follow but the group of bikers she leads him to offer more than just a rough ride. She looks to ride with the leader of the pack, but there's something different there and instead of kicking his ass, the biker boys initiate Michael into their group, under the guise of strong pot, hallucinations and damn good wine.

Lucy wants a night of relaxation but can't help but notice all of the help wanted signs on the wharf. Her motherly instincts kick in when a lost little boy cries for his mom and lands her in the hands of an endearing video store owner haunted by some motorcycle punks that he just can't keep out of his store. Being the helping hand he is, he offers Lucy a job . . . and a date.

And Grandpa knows more than he's letting on. There's a reason why he won't leave his mountain home and go into town.

Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire.

This movie has created a very loyal and dedicated fan base and has stood the test of time. I've yet to meet anyone that's watched this movie and didn't like it.
