2011 Horror and Urban Fantasy Reading Challenge

COMPLETED

I think it's pretty obvious by now that I'm a bit of a horror freak. So when I saw Book Chick City's Horror and Urban Fantasy Reading Challenge, I jumped at it. Everyone needs some good horror in their lives. Plus I have a few good books waiting in by TBR wings just itching to get added to the list. Just to warn, this'll probably be more horror for me than urban fantasy but you never know. The year just started. I'll start at the minimum 24 and see if any additions are rendered later on.

2. Cryer's Cross by Lisa McMann
3. Die Softly by Christopher Pike
4. Party Summer by RL Stine
5. The Last Vampire by Christopher Pike
6. The Last Vampire 2: Black Blood by Christopher Pike

2011 Old School YA Reading Challenge

COMPLETED

If you're familiar with my blog at all, then you know about my Freaky Friday feature that highlights one old school piece of horror of the YA variety published between 1980 and 1999 a week. Why? Because the market now is so unbelievably lacking in good YA horror and I yearn for those days when there was a bit of a flood of it. And it's because of my feature that I've started collecting all those old school copies of YA horror and I've developed a little bit of a pile already.

So when I saw The Book Vixen's YA of the 80s and 90s Reading Challenge, if course I jumped all over it. I do, after all, have a stack of books waiting in the wings to be read that fit this mould exactly. So for now I'll start with 10 although I have a few more than that in my TBR pile. We'll see how the year goes.

1. The Immortal by Christopher Pike
2. Die Softly by Christopher Pike
3. Party Summer by RL Stine
4. The Last Vampire by Christopher Pike
5. The Last Vampire 2: Black Blood by Christopher Pike
6. The Last Vampire 3: Red Dice by Christopher Pike
7. The Prom Queen by RL Stine
8. The Forbidden Game, Volume 1: The Hunter by LJ Smith
9. Let Me Tell You How I Died by Sinclair Smith
10. The New Girl by RL Stine

Things I've Learned from Books + 82

When you're trying to cope with something, going as emo and angst-ridden as humanly possible is the only viable mechanism to use. Don't worry. Your ugly-ass style and bad hair won't piss anyone off. No really. Neither will your craptastic attitude. I swear.

80s Awesomeness! ~ 91

Back in the 80s, a movie was released called Tron about a video game with a mind of its own. What better way to capitalize on product placement than actually creating a video game based off of the movie? Bam! Tron was born. Again. So if you loved the movie, you could now place the video game too, although the graphics weren't as good. You can play it too by going here. Don't get too blown away now.

Freaky Friday :|: 91

Title: Pep Rally
Author: Nicholas Adams
Published: May 1991
Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers
Pages: 160
Summary:
Cathy Atmore has always dreamed of being on the Cresswell High cheerleading squad. But she's never been popular enough or pretty enough. She hates being on the outside, looking in. Now the members of the cheerleading squad are being killed one by one...

Has Cathy's jealosy driven her over the edge? (from sff.net)
Wasn't the last one like this? Someone wanted something from a specific set of people and then those people started dying? What's the deal with that? And why is it always cheerleaders? Although I have to say the book cover is a win. Freaky ass doll thing.
